[Permit Guide]

Do You Need a Permit for a Dumpster?

Most towns in Lake, McHenry, and Cook County, IL do not require a permit for a dumpster placed on a private driveway, but some do — customers are responsible for checking with their local municipality and securing any required permit before delivery.

Driveway vs. Street Placement

A dumpster placed entirely on a private driveway typically does not need a permit in most of our service area. A dumpster placed on a public street almost always does — check with your village or city hall, and note that public-right-of-way placements typically require a new permit for each job site or order beyond the original timeframe.

Who's Responsible

Customers are responsible for securing any necessary permits or approvals — including from a homeowners’ association — before delivery. We’re happy to drop the dumpster wherever works best for you once those permissions are in place. See our service area pages for towns we regularly deliver to: Lake Zurich, Mundelein, Crystal Lake, Algonquin, Gurnee, Buffalo Grove, McHenry, Grayslake, Palatine, and Round Lake Beach.
